Rack mount rails are simply mounting brackets to put servers and other networking equipment into a rack cabinet.

Rails are generally specific to a manufacturer as well as server model and server version. In other words, you will need to know who manufactured your server, the server model and the generation to properly find the rack rails to purchase. For example HP uses different rail kits for their ProLiant DL360 Gen 2 server, ProLiant DL360 Gen 6, ProLiant DL380 Gen 2 Server, ProLiant DL380 Gen 6 servers.
